Delphine was having a great time in foster land until we learned that there’s a chance she is FELV+ and that it was going to be harder to find her a home. Well actually she is still having a wonderful time, she has no idea and is still focused on being a kitten and doing all the normal kitten things.  She will need to be tested again in 3months time to confirm the diagnosis, so therefore we are looking for an adopter that does not presently have cats, that is willing to keep her as a solo cat if she is indeed positive and is willing to take extra special care of her for as long as she may be with us on earth.

What is FELV?

Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) is one of the most common infectious diseases in cats, affecting between 2 and 3% of all cats in the United States. Although a diagnosis of FeLV can be emotionally devastating, it is important to realize that cats with FeLV can live normal lives for prolonged periods of time. The median survival time for cats after FeLV is diagnosed is 2.5 years. Once a cat has been diagnosed with FeLV, careful monitoring of weight, appetite, activity level, elimination habits, appearance of the mouth and eyes, and behavior is an important part of managing this disease. Any signs of abnormality in any of these areas should prompt immediate consultation with a veterinarian.

Please consider giving this extra special girl a home, if you would like more information, feel free to reach out.
